What Is Invisalign?
Invisalign is a popular orthodontic treatment for its many advantages over traditional braces. For one, it uses a series of clear polyurethane, or virtually-invisible aligners custom-made for each our patients.
How Does It Work?
The removable Invisalign trays discreetly shift crooked teeth into their ideal position. Each tray is worn for two weeks and should stay in the mouth around 20-22 hours a day. They should only be removed during eating, brushing, and rigorous sports activities.
Common Problems Solved By Invisalign
Invisalign, and orthodontic treatments for that matter, do not simply correct crooked teeth. They also address a number of problems in the jaw and your teeth including:
Wide spaces/ gaps between teeth.
The abnormal continued growth of the jawbone can cause too much space for your 32 teeth to fill in. The result is wide spaces in between them.
This is the opposite of the first example. Crowded teeth happen when there isn’t enough space for your teeth to fit in properly. As a result, your teeth crowd and are vulnerable to tooth decay and gum disease.
When the upper and lower arch of your teeth are misaligned and do not meet correctly, the condition is called crossbite. The upper teeth may fall inside your lower teeth when you bite. This can also happen on the teeth located on each side of the mouth.
As the name suggests, underbite is when the lower teeth protrude past the front teeth. This happens when the upper jawbone is smaller compared to the lower jawbone.
Overbite/overjet occurs when the upper teeth bite over the lower teeth. It is the opposite of its preceding example and may be caused by over development of the upper jawbone.
Benefits of Invisalign
Invisalign is a popular choice because of its many benefits including:
- Corrects malocclusion (bite defects).
- Removable hence it is easier for you to maintain good oral hygiene.
- Doesn’t need constant tightening and adjustment by the dentist.
- Invisible so you’ll feel confident smiling while wearing them.
- Sports participation is possible since you can remove them and switch over to mouthguards for the moment.
