If you are not confident about your teeth and happy with your smile, you might shut that smile off, or hide it.
People love sharing smiles, but if your teeth are discoloured, unattractively shaped, out of alignment, or spaced unevenly, you will likely hide them by turning away, keeping your mouth closed, or screening it with your hand.
With dentistry treatments at Western Clinic Dental, however, your smile can become whiter, straighter, and more attractive. There is a range of options to achieve the results that you desire, some of which we discuss below.
The benefits of a smile to your confidence
Smiles = happiness and confidence! Two studies have shown that smiling can create happiness. In one study, participants were asked to make facial expressions associated with different emotions. The study revealed that just the physical act of making the expressions caused participants to feel those particular emotions.
A University of Manchester’s School of Dentistry study followed dental patients before and after they had teeth restored with dental implants. The study found a significant increase in patient confidence, self-esteem, and general happiness.
A study by the universities of Leeds and Central Lancashire demonstrated that white teeth are a key aspect of attractiveness. The scientists took pictures of models and altered the color of teeth, then showed them to study participants. The pictures with white teeth were preferred over those with yellow teeth.
A study, conducted by Kelton Research, revealed that well-aligned teeth are associated with financial success and that job applicants with well-aligned teeth are more likely to be hired than those with crooked teeth.
Eight treatments Western Clinic Dental offers
Dental bonding. Bonding either restores the natural look of your teeth, or improves the appearance of aesthetically unpleasant teeth. Bondings can treat tracks, chips, fractures, small gaps, discolouration, and irregularly shaped teeth.
Composite Fillings. If you have amalgam (often known as “silver” fillings), they can be replaced with composite fillings that match the color of your teeth. If an amalgam filling is in a front tooth, replacing it with a composite filling can immediately upgrade your smile and remove the mercury in amalgam fillings.
Dental implants. Dental implants are replacement tooth roots. Implants provide a strong foundation for fixed (permanent) or removable replacement teeth that are made to match your natural teeth. Implants can replace individual missing teeth, or be used to bridge the space created by multiple missing teeth.
Dentures. Dentures are removable substitutes for missing teeth. Partial dentures are for patients who have lost some but not all of their natural teeth. Full dentures are for patients whose full set of teeth is missing. Dentures restore the look of a full set of teeth, giving you back your smile.
Teeth whitening. To restore your teeth’s natural shade, your dentist at Western Clinic employs a teeth whitening procedure. Cavities are treated and your teeth are cleaned to allow bleach to penetrate into them. Personalized trays are manufactured, which you have to wear for 1 hour in the morning and 1 hour at night. In just a week, your teeth’s shade will improve by 4-5 shades.
Inlays and onlays. Inlays and onlays are often used to restore the front-most teeth after damage or decay. Inlays and onlays are made in a laboratory and cemented or bonded to the surface of the tooth during a second visit. Inlays and onlays do not weaken the tooth structure, but actually strengthen it. After the procedure, the tooth can bear up to 50 to 75 percent more chewing force.
Invisalign. Invisalign is a popular orthodontic treatment for its many advantages over traditional braces. For one, it uses a series of clear polyurethane, or virtually-invisible aligners custom-made for each our patients. The invisibility of Invisalign means that you have increased confidence both during and after your treatement. Invisalign can treat:
- Wide spaces/ gaps between teeth.
- Crowded teeth.
Full mouth rehabilitation. If you need more than one dental treatment to improve your appearance and oral health, your Western Clinic Dental dentist may recommend full mouth rehabilitation. Full mouth rehabilitation is a combination of dental procedures such as dental implants, dental bridges, dental bonding, and orthodontics. All of these combine to improve the appearance of your jaw, teeth, and smile, while improving jaw function and restoring teeth.
