CDBS: Minor Amendments To Take Effect From 1 January 2018
In the news:
“The Minister for Health, the Hon Greg Hunt had advised the ADA that a number of changes to the CDBS have been finalised and will take effect on 1 January 2018.”
Child Dental Benefits Schedule
Your child’s oral health is just as important, maybe more, as that of any age group. Keeping your child’s oral health in tiptop shape early on leads to many benefits in the future. Dental issues such as tooth decay, gum disease, and tooth loss can be avoided.
At Western Clinic Dental, your child’s oral health is our concern too. In partnership with the Australian government, your trusted dentist in Torrensville wants your child to enjoy premium quality dental health services for a future of dazzling smiles and healthy pearly whites.
What is Child Dental Benefits Schedule?
In its aim to instil oral health care at an early age, the Australian government has initiated the Child Dental Benefits Schedule or CBDS. It provides up to $1000-dental services coverage for children aged 2 – 17 years old, enjoyed over two calendar years.
The two-year calendar period commences right after your child’s first dental service under CBDS. At the end of the first year, you can still continue using CBDS if your child remains eligible.
If, at the end of the two years, there is still remaining amount from the $1000, your child cannot use it. However, your child will be given another $1000 if he/she is still eligible.
Under the CBDS, your child can enjoy the following oral health services:
- Dental checkups
- Dental cleaning
- Fissure sealing
- Tooth fillings
- Tooth extractions
- Root canal treatments
It is important to know the limitations of the program. CBDS doesn’t cover the following services:
- Cosmetic surgery
- Services given in a hospital
To fully enjoy CBDS and make the most of the program, we highly recommend calling us about it beforehand. We take pleasure in helping you create a timeline for your child’s dental services.
There are certain eligibility rules to consider before your child can take advantage of the CBDS:
- Age (2-17 years old)
- Member of Medicare
- Family receives financial assistance funded by the Australian government
Other eligibility requirements include the following:
- Parenting payment
- Family tax benefit
- Youth allowance
- Disability support pension
- Carer payment
- Special benefit
- Veteran’s children education scheme (if child is 16 or older)
- Military rehabilitation and compensation act education and training scheme (if child is 16 or older)
Once your child is deemed eligible, you will receive written notification from Medicare.
